Mothers and Daughters.

She was imperfectly perfect;

Caring, strict and warm.

She was beautiful with long hair which she cropped short,

“Perm”, she said, “Activator” she needed, “Salon” she went.

She had beautiful eyes that had seen a world of wonder, peace, hate and most importantly, Love.

Eyes that kept pain within;

The pain of losing child after child, but joy and gladness when one was saved by God Almighty.

She had an infectious laugh,

One that warmed the hearts of all around her,

Round cheeks, perfect skin…she was very beautiful,

A safe haven from my fears.

From her, I got to know another wonderful woman;

That child who was saved,

That brave daughter who fought death and won,

The one whom I call Mother.

She loved me,

No matter how I behaved, she loved me,

No matter my lack of affection towards her, she loved me,

That beautiful woman with a heart of gold,

Whose face I try very hard not to forget,

My Grandma.

Beautiful Lucy Pimeh,

I may not remember your face as much as I want to,

But I remember everything else;

Your hugs, your songs, your nicknames, your warmth, your jokes, your discipline, your hurt, your stories, your life-changing experiences, your love…your God.

I miss your voice.

I wish I built that glass house I promised,

I wish I was patient enough,

I wish I hugged you more,

I wish I never left you alone,

I wish I was the best grand-daughter as you were the best grand-ma,

I wish I expressed my affections more, apologized more when I hurt you.

I won’t make the same mistakes with your daughter, my mother.

I will cherish her, keep her company, shelter her, provide for her, pray for her,

Love her.

This time, I will do it right,

This time, I will value more.

Beautiful Lucy Pimeh,

I may shed tears of sadness now and then,

I cannot help it, I’m young and emotional;

You impacted more than you’ll ever imagine,

And I thank God everyday for making you a part of my life.

Beautiful Lucy Pimeh,

You’ll always be in my heart

This imperfectly perfect woman.

I love you Mama and

I’m fine.

The Bible says,

“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”

We children are blessings to our parents. We should never forget our roles in their lives no matter how “grown” we become. We must love them, cherish them – for God uses them to shape us into who we were, are, and will be.

And parents,

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

The greatest training you can gift us is the way of God through Jesus Christ – only then would we have mutual love, respect and understanding.

Remain Blessed.
